Litha Is Coming!

20 05 2010

I can feel it! That splendid, warm sun…the festivals…PSG..its coming! And I’ve been getting a head start on it all by making some Litha-centered recipes! Sun’s Up Cobbler, Buttermilk Scones with Orange Honey Butter, and Midsummer Tea! I’m hoping that tomorrow is sunny and warm enough to make the sun tea and then have the scones (made with oat flour this time since one of my besties has a gluten sensitivity) and tea with a friend when she drops by to discuss Thorn Coyle’s book “Evolutionary Witchcraft.” We’ve been working through it together and I’m LOVING the Feri Tradition! Its so fulfilling and feels really right for me!

The Iowa Pagan Music Festival was this past Sunday and it was AWESOME! My favorites were Celia and Natalie Brown! I was fascinated by the process of looping!!

Celia:

I had my aura photographed at this event as well and it came out REALLY cool! I’m hoping to scan the picture in tomorrow and post it in here! It showed a whole lot of guides surrounding me and a healing guide to my left! The colors showed that I am optimistic, happy, very healing, and that there is a big change coming in my life (or happening now). It was really neat to see and definitely raised the hairs on my arm! Crazy!

Our Litha will be spent at PSG and it can’t come soon enough! I’m going to really enjoy my son’s 6th birthday this weekend though! That is just as exciting for me! I can’t believe he is 6 already!

I received my 3 Sisters set from Mama Roots and I am in love! It is an amazing product that I will treasure for the rest of my life! I’m going to rearrange our altar and cleanse it, then I will put up a picture of the set. There is a second set on its way to a dear friend of mine and we plan to do a consecration ritual together!

Blessed Be!

A Prayer to Brigid

5 05 2010

Brigid…Brigit…Bride…Brigantia…Brigindo
Great Goddess of Healers, Poets, Mystics, and Smiths

Your Sacred Fires burn brightly upon Sacred Altars
Deep in the Earth, Your springs of Inspiration flow
Your Sacred Cauldrons are filled with Herbs for Healing

Forge hammers spark with craft, as Smiths work in Your Honor
Words and Song flow from the hearts of Poets and Musicians
Healers are again turning to Your Sacred Ways with Reverence

May Your Sacred Wells overflow with the Essence of Your Presence
May we always to use the Gifts You grant us. . . with Wisdom
Fill our hearts with the Courage & Kindness of Your Sacred Horses

Beltane

5 05 2010

Again, another post a little late, but better late than never, right? We celebrated Beltane on May 2nd instead of May 1st due to other obligations with Bob’s work. We had planned on doing an outdoor family ritual (complete with making our own little maypoles to place on our balcony afterwards) and grill out but when we pulled up to the park, the gnats were absolutely unbearable! So we packed up really quickly (I’m sure we looked hilarious to this guy sitting in his van getting ready to walk his dog) and came home. I guess it was never meant to be because it was too windy to get the charcoal started on our balcony too! We cooked our brats and hotdogs on our Cuisinart griller and had the ritual indoors. Our altar looked really nice and it was fun to make our own maypoles!

We put these up after an online ritual later in the evening but we did charge the ribbons in our ritual and then I did so additionally in the online ritual. Sorry for the icky picture! I was trying to keep the cat in the apartment, hehe! After our ritual (I know, I know, it should have been for Cakes and Ale) I made Dandelion Delight and Orange White Chocolate Chip Beltane Cookies. (I found the recipes here:

http://crystalforest3.homestead.com/Beltane.html#anchor_10857)

Dandelion Delight: by Patricia Telesco

“It is said that Hecate once entertained Theses with dandelion water!”

  • 3 cups of dandelion petals
  • 1 gallon of orange juice
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • Ginger Ale (optional)

Clean off the dandelion petals with cool water. In the meantime, warm the orange and lemon juice together, then add the dandelions. Make certain you only have petals!! No green stuff! Add the sugar, stirring constantly until dissolved. Strain juices, and chill. Add ginger ale for a light, bubbly drink.

Alternatives: you can use lemonade instead of orange juice and use the juice of 1 orange instead.

Magickal attributes: divination, wind magick, wishes and goals, communication with the Spirit World.

Orange White Chocolate Chip Beltane Cookies:

  • 1 and 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 and 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract (I used orange extract and a splash of vanilla)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. orange zest
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the cookie sheets with a little non-stick spray (or line with parchment paper).

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and orange zest.

In a bowl, cream the butter using a mixer on medium speed, adding sugar gradually. Add vanilla and the egg. Add the flour mixture gradually, stopping frequently to make sure that you push the mixture down from the sides of the bowl. When the flour mixture is thoroughly combined, add the white chocolate chips.

Drop the dough by the spoonful onto the baking sheet, spacing them about 1″ apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until beginning to brown (I put it in for 11, then added 3 more minutes when the 11 was up). Allow to cool completely on cooling racks.

These cookies came out SO good! The drink too! The recipes are definitely keepers! =)

Blessed Beltane! I’m looking forward to Litha A LOT! We’ll be at PSG for the first time!!!!!!

Sharing the love and postcards!!

4 05 2010

Long time no blog huh? Sorry about that! The semester has been winding down here at the University of Iowa and it has certainly been a busy one! 2 more days of class, 2 finals next week, and I’m DONE…for the summer…haha!

Awhile back (it seems), we took part in the Share the Love Heart Swap over at http://naturalsuburbia.blogspot.com/. My partner was from Australia and made me the most amazing journal cover (journal included!). I made her a heart shaped photo clip with all sorts of wooden hearts all over it and let me tell you, it was NOTHING compared to what she made for me! I feel kind of bad but I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to make and then a lot of time making it and I’m pleased with how it came out. I really hope she likes it! I always worry that people won’t like what I made them but I looooove giving and making gifts for others!

The cover:

Aaaand, then inside:

Isn’t it awesome?! It didn’t matter what you made for your partner, you just had to include hearts as a theme!

I’ve decided that I love swaps! Its SO fun! We’re currently participating in a U.S. postcard swap as well! We wanted to do the International one but it was closed to U.S. families because there were quite a few who had already signed up and the blog owner wanted to make sure it was truly international! We received the addresses of 5 families and I just sent the postcards out today!!! 3 of the cards were too small for me to get cool stamps for but the other 2 I was able to choose some cute stamps. =)

I really hope our swap partners enjoy their cards! We don’t swap with the people we sent to so it will be surprise which states our postcards come from! I wanted Aidan to write on them but since space was limited, I just wrote down what he said.

Hopefully there will be more swaps down the line to participate in! Or maybe I’ll do one myself. I have plenty of blog connections and hopefully they would help spread the word. I will have to give it some thought!
